Elías Sourasky

Eliyahu (Elías) Sourasky, 1899–1986

 

Mr. Eliyahu (Elías) Sourasky (1899–1986) was born in Bialystok, Poland, but at a young age, he moved to Mexico, where he established his home and became a highly successful businessman.

 

In his youth, Mr. Sourasky actively participated in the Zionist Movement, and his unwavering support during the Israeli War of Independence left a lasting impact on the State of Israel.

 

Beyond his dedication to Zionism, Mr. Sourasky was renowned for his contributions to research, science, and educational institutions in both Mexico and Israel.

 

In recognition of his exceptional contributions to the Mexican economy, culture, and science, the Mexican Government honored him with the "Orden del Águila Azteca" (Aztec Eagle), the highest distinction awarded in Mexico.

 

Mr. Sourasky's boundless generosity played a pivotal role in the establishment and expansion of the Sourasky Central Library at the Tel Aviv University Ramat Aviv Campus.
